After reading "December", share your reaction to the interaction between Micky Mantle and Holling on page 92. Reread the first paragraph on page 93 "When gods die....." and explain what you feel is the meaning of this passage.
After reading chapter December my reaction is I thought Mickey Mantle would be kinder or understanding not a jerk to Holling since Holling has looked up to him for a while. Also that Holling's friends are there for him even though they made him buy them cream puffs. For the second question I felt the meaning of "when a gods die…" means when something you care about goes away or dies it hurts and it takes time to recover.
i agree with you because if i met some one who i looked up to for a long time, that ended up treating me like i was nothing would really offend me and make me feel depressed.
I agree with you because if the person I looked up to treated me like dirt the one time I see him I would be pretty heart broken too. I also think that it will take time for Holling to recover.
I agree Cullen, I kind of looked at the Mick Mantle situation like how a storm does damage but it takes time to recover and thats what I think Holling is experiencing because he its just a problem he can overcome.
I agree with your answer Cullen because if my idol went from the best and amazing to refusing to give me his or her autograph because of the way I looked, I would also feel very unwanted and gloomy.
I liked how when holling got rejected by mickey, danny stood up for him and rejected the ball he got signed. I also liked that mrs. baker gave hime danny and doug baseball mitts and got to go meet joe and horus in the gym and got to play around with them
I feel that Holling's relationship with Mrs. Baker is becoming better. I state this because Mrs. Baker gave Danny, Doug and Holling a baseball and baseball glove's
The reaction I had when Holling meet Micky Mantle and how Micky treated him was I was thinking that he must of been depressed because here he is meeting someone he looks up to but then he treats him like he's not important and doesn't care. On page 93 the first paragraph the sentence "when god dies…" I feel the meaning of this passage was to mean that if you get disappointed or something doesn't go to plan that you can get through it and overcome it.
the reaction i had when Holling met mickey mantle and he treated him poorly was that i was shocked. Holling must have felt bad because some one who he looked up to treated him like dirt. (what kind of a person would do that) the beginning sentence was, when god dies, i felt like the meaning of this passage was even if people are mean, that they shouldn't let them get to you.
I agree with you because I couldn't believe it myself that Mickey would do something this mean. I also think that Holling should just let the problem go.
My reaction when I read page 93 was I surprised because Mickey Mantle treated Holling so bad. I felt bad for Holling because he always looked up to Mickey Mantle. I think the meaning of "when god dies" if you get unhappy you can always fight through it.
When reading the Mickey Mantle Paragraph I thought what a jerk. I thought that Mickey Mantle as a baseball player would not act like this in public. I thought that he would do good things not bad things like this. I think the paragraph about when gods die meant that Holling was like he was a god dying due to the fact of sadness because of what had happened with the Mickey Mantle situation. He felt like this because the bus driver gave him things that never ended up working the way they were supposed to. It's like he went on a quest to find a robber and the robber was already captured.
After reading the december chapter, i was so amused that Mickey mantle wasnt nice or understanding To Holling. Instead, he was a huge jerk to Holling and wasnt understanding, also the fact that Mickey was one of Hollings ro models for a long time. In my head, i felt that Holling was very depressed, because hes meeting the person he looks up to and doesnt even care. Also on page 93the first paragraph, the sentece 'When god dies" i feel the meanin of that paragraph was if something lets you down or makes you disapointed, dont let it take you down and overcome your obstacle.
After reading December, I was shocked to see how badly Mickey Mantle acted towards him. I was surprised he wouldn't sign Hollings baseball just because he was wearing tights from his play. It was great how danny stood up for Holling and gave Mickey Mantle back the baseball that he got signed. As for the second question, I think the meaning of that passage was that don't let someone or something let you down and disappoint you, don't let them get to you
When I read chapter December I think that Mickey Mantle is going to become a bad role model. I say this because he is being mean to Holling. Mickey said that "I don't sign baseballs for kids in yellow tights. I think this could have a great impact on Holling. My reaction to "When god dies" in my opinion is that you can't struggles take over your life.
After re-reading page 92 I felt so bad for Holling. If that happened to me I would start to cry. A baseball player would never do that to a fan even if he is in tights and is dressed like Peter Pan. Aren't they supposed to be people to look up to, not be let down. For the second question, I think that the theme of this paragraph is that when something you care about dies it hurts you more than it and it takes a long time to recover from it.
When I read the Mickey Mantle part I was very surprised. At first I was surprised early at the play when his parents just left him at the doors and left. Then I thought Mickey would be nice, but boy was he mean. I didn't understand Mickey's attitude to Holling. Holling works hard at his play and gets treated like dirt. I feel like the gods die part means that you feel sad and you think that you'll never get better.
How I felt between the interaction with Mickey Mantle and Holling was questionable because he seemed like a pretty interesting guy to me but people sometimes never turn out who they might seem to you.
Holling is spending December unhappy because he has to do the play. he is unhappy about this because he has to wear a fairy costume. some of his friends are there but they hardly notice him. when he goes to get has ball signed by Mickey Mantle he finds the door to the locker room locked with his base ball in it then he gets a free bus ride and a even free baseball from a bus driver but when he gets there Mickey wont sign his baseball because of his costume.
After reading the chapter December, my reaction to the choices that famous baseball player Mickey Mantle made was actually horrified. It seems as though Holling spent so much time to get his autograph. He raced out if the theater after he finished acting in his part in a Shakespeare play, still with his costume on, just barely manages to get on a bus for free because his dad wasn't there to pick him up and when he finally makes it in time to get the signature, Mickey tells him that he doesn't sign baseballs for boys who look like fairies. As for the second question, I think the phrase "When a gods die" is referring to great sadness because something or someone has died who was very special. In Holling's case his love for Mickey Mantle has died inside.
After reading chapter December my reaction is I thought Mickey Mantle would be kinder or understanding not a jerk to Holling since Holling has looked up to him for a while. Also that Holling's friends are there for him even though they made him buy them cream puffs.
