In the chapter "November" Mrs Baker talks to Holling about the ending of The Tempest", specifically the character Caliban. Reread their conversation on pages 70-71 and respond to what you think Mrs. Baker is trying to teach Holling through this character and the story's ending.
I think at the end of the November chapter the lesson Mrs. Baker wants him to learn is that we all have a side of ourselves we are not proud of and we have our mistakes and try to do better. Plus be more than what people think of you also I think it might be foreshadowing something such as his dad trying to be nicer and less controlling.

When they were talking about Caliban Holling said he was the monster and that he doesn't deserve happiness, but Mrs. Baker said that perhaps ShakeSpear could have allowed the monster a happy ending.

In other words, she is trying to tell him that we have two sides of us, one side of us we are not proud of. Also we make mistakes and thats how we learn. Laslty she is trying to say that try to be more then what people think of you. Just like cullen said.

I also think that she is trying to teach him that everybody makes mistakes and that you need to learn from your mistakes to get through life.

DeleteI think that Mrs. Baker is foreshadowing a change in character when she brings up Caliban. I think the one to change in character will be Hollings father. I also think it has some thing to do with making and learning from mistakes.

DeleteAfter finishing reading the chapter Novemeber, I believe that the lesson that Mrs. Baker was trying to teach Holling was that it doesn't who you are or what you did, everyone deserves a happy ending. You just have to learn from your mistakes.
